DEFTECH’s capability represents the capacity for a set of resources as perceived by both our employees and our customers to integrative performing for a better business attributes than competitors through our business-level strategy.

 

As a local prime defence contractor of land based military vehicles to the Ministry of Defence, DEFTECH is more capable to explore all opportunities as a major defence vehicles player to secure contracts for the supply, maintenance and refurbishment of land based military vehicles.

 

To operate effectively, in the midst of our resources and capabilities, DEFTECH forms strategic alliances with international manufacturers to enhance DEFTECH’s product range and to acquire new technologies for the assembly, system integration, repair, maintenance, overhaul service, refurbishment and upgrading of vehicles and other products. DEFTECH is maximising the synergistic use of all available facilities within the DRB-HICOM Group and the country for the assembly of vehicles and fabrication of vehicles bodies and expects to keep its order book healthy.

 

 

DEFTECH, which leads the Automotive Group for Malaysian Industry Council for Defence, Enforcement & Security (MIDES), is executing its awarded contract to develop a family of indigenous 8X8 Armoured Wheeled Vehicles, namely the DEFTECH AV8. This contract creates the opportunity for the DEFTECH to support the supply chain execution among the MIDES team members to become a partner in this support network manufacturing and supplying components such as electrical and electronic equipment, rubber mouldings, metal fabricated parts, batteries, tyres and also customised and specialised parts.

 

DEFTECH will integrate and coordinate set of commitments and actions to gain sustainable competitive advantages by exploiting core competencies in DEFTECH’s business. DEFTECH’s business capability consists of three main core activities which are:

 ·         Commercial, Security and Specialised Vehicles.

 ·         Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Services and Spare Parts supply.

Armoured Wheeled Vehicle 8X8 (DEFTECH AV8)

 

DEFTECH received Letter of Award (LOA) from Malaysian government on 23rd February 2011. Total units to be supplied are 257 units in 12 variants. The delivery of these AV8 in stages starting from year 2013 to year 2018.

Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Services (MRO) and Spare Parts Supply

 

The Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) role to DEFTECH’s core businesses is also equally important to prolong DEFTECH’s commitment to its customers. With its fleet of Adnan ACV-300 vehicles, Pendekar Main Battle Tanks, HICOM Handalan trucks, specialised vehicles, buses and trucks, DEFTECH is responsible to provide spare parts and technical support assistance to the customers.

 

The Ministry of Defence Malaysia has awarded DEFTECH with MRO spare parts contracts to support the life of Adnan ACV-300 and HICOM Handalan trucks, whereas DEFTECH’s subsidiary i.e. Defence Services Sdn Bhd (DSSB) is managing the maintenance program of the Pendekar Main Battle Tanks and general overhaul works on the Scorpion AC90 and Stormer vehicles.

 

 

 

 

 

With vast experience in general overhaul and refurbishment programmes for armoured vehicles and as well with the dedicated plant equipped to cater for the 3rd and 4th Line Maintenance of the Army’s fleet of armoured vehicles, DEFTECH and DSSB would ensure continuous maintainability and also to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

 

 

 

 

  

Growth in Technology Enhancement - Research & Development

 

The establishment of R&D division is in line with the national policy to be an industrial nation by Year 2020 and is also in line with DEFTECH’s vision of becoming the leading player in the defence industry. In an industry that is fast changing, DEFTECH continuously react to the demand of the latest trends. This is necessary due to continuous technology changes and development as well as the changing preference of customers.

 

 

 

 

The in-house capabilities with the latest Computer Aided Design (CAD) hardware and associated software to undertake in-house design and product development to fulfill special requirement from clients and deliver customised and specialised vehicles according to specification are an asset to DEFTECH’s core business and competitive advantages.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In supporting the designed and developed vehicles, DEFTECH uses its test track that was built according to NATO standards at its plant in Pekan. The test track is a proving ground where military vehicles are put through their paces. This infrastructure is used to test on and off road vehicles according to extreme military specifications.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

Technical collaboration has given birth to DEFTECH’s own armoured wheeled vehicle – DEFTECH AV4. With this, DEFTECH is set to evolve and develop into a highly respected automotive armour technology and land systems player within the nation and globally.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Distribution & Deliveries

 

DEFTECH had managed to secure its first overseas sales with a total of 69 units HICOM Handalan II in 4 variants that had been sold to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in 2005. Additional vehicles supplied to-date to RBAF was 46 units of HICOM Handalan II, 1 unit Explosive Ordinance Proposal Command Vehicle and 1 unit Explosive Ordinance Proposal Light Team Vehicle in 2008 and 2009.

 

 

 

 

Besides RBAF, DEFTECH had also exported 2 units of Evidence Collection Vehicles for the Bangladesh Police in 2005. In 1999, DEFTECH had also supplied 6 units of HICOM Handalan I to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in Butterworth, Penang.

 

MOU with the Government of Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste

 

MOU agreement between the Ministry of Defence & Security (MoD&S) of Timor-Leste and DEFTECH has been signed on 23rd January 2008 for the following modernisation through the collaborative programmes:

 

·         Supply, deliver and commissioning of vehicles and equipments. 

·         Technical skill development, enhancement and on-the-job training programmes. 

·         Research & Development and joint trials and evaluation collaboration and 

·         Maintenance, repair and overhaul programmes.
